DANVERS - Richard Y. Putnam, (Dick) affectionately known to his friends as "Put", 92, of Danvers, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home on December 5, 2020 with his loving wife Terry by his side.
He was born in Danvers on July 14,1928 to the late Richard E. Putnam and Natalie (Young) Putnam. He was raised and educated in Danvers and graduated Danvers High School in 1946.
On November 16,1952, he married his beloved wife Theresa C. Vaillancourt and raised three children. Richard had a long career at Eastern Propane (formerly Country Gas Service). He also served his country with the Army National Guard, 26 th Infantry Yankee Division and as a member of the Second Corps of Cadets in Salem, MA.
Dick loved big band swing music and playing the tenor saxophone. He led the Dick Putnam Orchestra, was a member of the National Guard Band of Boston, MA, frequently played with The Aleppo Shriners Swing Band, the Rockport Community Band. He continued to play his sax well into his retirement and always was ready to play at family jam sessions and other events in the community.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Theresa; his children, Robert Putnam and wife, Lynn of Colleyville, TX, Dana Putnam and wife, Joanne of Danvers and Patricia (Putnam) Cripps and husband, Wayne of Simpsonville, SC; his grandchildren, Jamie Oakley, Tracy Putnam, Ashley Stanton, Nathan Cripps and Alexandra Lehman and his eight great grandchildren. He was also a loving brother to Marjorie (Putnam) Atkinson of Bloomfield, CT and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (Rte 62) Danvers, Friday, June 25th at 11 A.M.
