Rickard J. Donovan, Sr.

SALEM - Mr. Rickard J. Donovan, Sr., 84, of Salem, beloved husband of the late Denise (Tremblay) Donovan, passed away quietly in his sleep on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Rickard and Maybelle (Phaup) Donovan. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. Rickard continued his education receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Education for Salem Teachers College and his Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Boston University.

An honorably discharged veteran, Mr. Donovan proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Donovan had a long career in education, teaching in Lynn Public Schools where he taught 7^th grade Math. He was passionate about education and was immensely proud of his students and their many accomplishments.

Rickard was a kind, gentle man who was soft spoken with a dry sense of humor. He was outgoing and a valued member of his bowling league. Rickard enjoyed the competition and comradery of a good game of golf, which he played every chance he got. He was a devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather who will be fondly remembered for his love of family, his gentle nature and deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.

Surviving Rickard, is his daughter-in-law, Darlene (Carapellucci) Donovan of Tewksbury, his granddaughter Samantha Carapellucci-Donovan of Salem, his sister Julia Piwowarski of Los Banos, CA, his nieces, Janice, Robin, and Maryanne and his nephew Robert all of CA and his two great-nieces. He was also the father of the late Rickard Donovan Jr., and the late Sean Donovan.

ARRANGEMENTS: A celebration of Rickard’s life will be held at a later date. Assisting the family with the arrangements is O’Donnell – Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem.
