Rita Patricia Cassidy Obituary

SALEM – Ms. Rita Patricia Cassidy (Rita Pat/Pat/Auntie Pat), 71, of Salem, died peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by her loving family and dear friend, Robin Nadeau.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Joseph R. and Mary C. (Snow) Cassidy. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1970.

Ms. Cassidy began her professional career working for Stop & Shop Supermarkets. Yet Pat had a calling and passion for travel. She was able to combine her personal interest with her profession as she began a long and successful career as a Travel Agent. For many years she designed and guided families as they forged amazing adventures for her clients to take and make everlasting memories. From a simple flight booking, to a full overseas adventure, Pat took great pride in creating incredible and unique experiences for her clients to partake in. Over the years, while working for Caboose Travel, Travel World and more recently Journeymasters, she forged countless friendships with the hoteliers and resort managers and in turn treated Pat’s clients as such. From Alaskan adventures to African safaris and beyond, even if you reached out to her with a request for an exceptional trip with no specifics, Pat’s knowledge, experience and relationships allowed her to make the impossible possible. She truly helped others create once in a lifetime memories.

A lifelong resident of the City of Salem, Pat was a steadfast Girl Scout Troop leader for many, many years. Alongside her best friend and traveling companion Robin Nadeau, they ran Girl Scout Troops 233, 425, and 361 of Salem. Her involvement in Girl Scouts left an enormous, lasting impact on her community at large. She took great pride in having steered 30 girls to their Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting. She helped build and encourage self-confidence and independence in countless young girls. She was truly beloved by her troops.

Pat and Robin took many trips together throughout the years. Travel was in her soul and she enjoyed every minute. Road trips were their favorite type of travel, journeying to all 50 states throughout the years, whether on a personal trip or a carefully planned year-end trip she organized for her Girl Scouts. She also traveled frequently to Walt Disney World. Most recently, their newest favorite trips were river cruises here in the US.

Auntie Pat, as she was lovingly known, spoiled her nieces and nephews and relished time spent with her family. From far away trips with them to Disney World and Europe, to walking around Salem enjoying the Halloween festivities, it wasn’t out of place to be stopped multiple times by people that Pat had a connection with or impact on. She will be deeply missed.

Pat is survived by her brother, Edward Cassidy and his wife, Karen of Hampton, NH, her niece, Michelle Siden and her husband, Matthew of Hampton, NH, her great nieces, Maia and Maelyn, and her best friend, Robin Nadeau of Salem. She will be missed by so many additional friends and members of her Nadeau family, including Nancy Nadeau, Phyllis Maye, Bruce Nadeau, Marion, Evan and Lucas McKinney, Veronique and James Glenn, and Zayana and Simon Nadeau. She was the loving aunt of the late Michael Cassidy.
