RICHMOND - Mr. Robert Edwards Hartford, 92, of Richmond, beloved husband of the late Barbara (Scully) Hartford, died Thursday, August 29, 2019 at his home. Born in Lewiston, Maine on May 10, 1927, he was the son of Louise Jamison who passed when he was two and was reared by Abbie and William Hartford. He was educated in Portland, Maine and was a graduate of Portland High School. He served his country as a member of the United States Army Air Corps and was stationed in Guam following the surrender of Japan, earning an honorable discharge in 1947. Bob was grateful for the G.I. Bill and attended Colby College graduating with a bachelor's degree in English. Bob was an Investment Officer in the insurance industry for many years. He was associated with the John Hancock Insurance Company of Boston for over 20 years and spent the final years of his career with Berkshire Life Company. He possessed a deep love of his profession and was continually increasing his knowledge of investment markets and trends. A life-long learner, Bob was an avid student of history and retained a passion for the markets and anything that might impact the economy throughout his life. He was a quiet, gentle soul, with a curious intellect and big heart. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who continuously had family at the center of his life. He will be remembered as a gentleman, with sustained mental agility, both fiercely independent and self-sufficient. Bob is survived by his son James and his wife Elizabeth (Dewire) of Duxbury, his daughter, Sarah Carroll Hartford and her husband Frank Fahy of Albuquerque, NM, his grandchildren, Hannah, Eliza, Abigail, Samuel, Katherine and Elizabeth, and his great-grandchildren, Harper Louise and Theodore Robert. He was pre-deceased by his long-time companion, the late Joan McFalls.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to Robert's memorial service which will be held in the First Parish Duxbury, Unitarian Universalist Church, 842 Tremont St., Duxbury, Massachusetts, Saturday, December 14th at 11 A.M.
