Obituary

SALEM- Mr. Robert "Bongo" Marshall Jr. 62, of Salem, died September 14th, 2013 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House with his family by his side. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Robert M. Marshall Sr. and the late Sylvia J. (Prescod) (Marshall) Burroughs. Raised and educated in Salem, he was a graduate of Salem High School.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. Bobby had been employed with the Essex County Sheriff's Department as an assistant Deputy Superintendent for over thirty one years until the time of his retirement in 2008. Bongo had many interests and friends. He truly enjoyed spending time deep sea fishing, kiting and cooking. He had a deep passion for music especially R & B and will be remembered for his warm and kind personality. Always willing to help a friend in need, Bongo's famous saying was always "It is what it is". His smile would light up a room and he will for ever be remembered for his large ear to ear grin that would turn anyone's day around. He was a great friend, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed. Bongo is survived by his brothers, David "Bingo" Marshall and his wife Beth of Salem and Paul S. Marshall and his wife June Marshall of Salem, his sister, Brenda Marshall and her fiancé Manny DeMera of New York, New York, his three nieces Vanessa, Megan and Brooke Marshall all of Salem and his dear beloved long time companion Marie McKinnon of Salem and many extended relatives and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in The O'Donnell Funeral Home 46 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem, Thursday at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours Wednesday from 5 to 9 P.M. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Bongo's memory to the Kaplan Family Hospice House 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923.
