DANVERS - Mr. Robert W. Tivnan, 91 of Danvers, formerly of Salem, retired Principal and school teacher for the town of Danvers, passed away peacefully on October 6th, 2021 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Arthur and Agnes (Lyons) Tivnan, he received his education in the Salem Public Schools and was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1948. Robert continued his education receiving his Bachelor’s degree from Salem State University, class of 1953, his Master’s degree from Boston University, class of 1956 and his C.A.S.G., and advanced graduate study in administration, from Boston University in 1958.

Mr. Tivnan had been employed as a Principal and Teacher for the Danvers Public School System for 38 years and at the time of his retirement, he was Principal of the Smith School. Prior to that, he either taught or was Principal in the following schools: Maple Street, Williams, Fox Hill, Putnamville, Richmond, Thorpe, Portables, Tapley, Wadsworth, Great Oak and Highlands. Well known and active in many educational circles, he was a member of the National Education Association, Danvers Teachers Association, Danvers Administrators, National Teachers Association and Salem State Alumni Association.

Devoted to his family and faith, Bob was happiest when surrounded by his family especially his many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He loved being involved in their many activities and celebrating their many milestones. He was an active communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Danvers. Bob was a frequent visitor to many of the local “down town” businesses where he greeted everyone by name. He never met a stranger, only a friend. Bob will be forever remembered for his dedication to education, family, and his vast circle of friends and deeply missed by them and all the lives he touched throughout his life.

Surviving Robert are his nieces and nephews, John Tivnan and his wife, Lisa, Tom Tivnan and his wife, Julie, Brian Tivnan, Carolann (Tivnan) Powers and her husband, Derek and Lisa (Ouellette) Tivnan all of Danvers, Gregg Tivnan and his partner, Jeff of Nantucket, Peter Tivnan and his wife, Katie of Springfield, Paula Tivnan of NH and Dana Tivnan of RI and several great nieces and nephews, and his sister-in-law, Elaine Tivnan. He was also the brother of the late Philip, Joseph, John, Arthur and Rita Tivnan.

ARRANGMENTS: His funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church on Tuesday, October 19th at 11 A.M. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends invited.  Visiting hours prior to the Mass at O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, DANVERS, 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) Danvers from 9 to 10:30 A.M.
