SALEM – Mr. Robert “Bobby” Gabrielski, 55 of Salem, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, with his devoted family by his side.
Born in Salem, Bobby was the son of the late Alfred and Elizabeth (Plourde) Gabrielski. Raised and educated in Peabody, he was a graduate of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, class of 1985.
Bobby started his 30-year career with Eastern Bank as a teller. His quick wit, intelligence and dedication were quickly recognized by his superiors. When he was offered the opportunity to transfer to the technology department, Bobby was reluctant. However, as in every challenge he took on, he excelled. He expanded his competency by completing several technology security certifications, allowing him to quickly move up the corporate ladder. At the time of his diagnosis, he was the Director of Security Engineering, responsible for protecting Eastern Bank’s systems from outside technological threats. Throughout his career with Eastern Bank, Bobby was well loved and respected by his colleagues and clients and received many recognitions for his accomplishments. He was a proud member of the Eastern Bank President’s Club and the Quarter Century Club.
Bobby loved his profession and his Eastern Bank family, but he was truly happiest when spending time with the love of his life, Jamie, his 12-year-old puggle whom he spoiled incessantly. Bobby had a sense of style like no other; standing over 6 feet tall and always impeccably dressed, his presence in the room was notable. He had an uncanny ability to always find the perfect gift for his loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
In his free time, Bobby enjoyed listening to music, decorating his home, cooking, baking, and watching movies. He loved his family and in return he was well loved by them. He will be deeply missed.
Bobby was treated at Dana Farber following his cancer diagnosis in 2019. He faced this challenge with courage, determination, and grace. He was profoundly grateful to the dedicated thoracic team at Dana Farber for their caring and thoughtful approach to his treatment. His greatest regret was not being able to do more to support cancer research at Dana Farber. In his memory, his family has established a cycling team that will ride in the Pan Mass Challenge in August 2023 – The Bobby Bunch.
In addition to his beloved dog and best friend, Jamie, Bobby is survived by his siblings, Edward Gabrielski and his wife, Daphne Firth of Magnolia, Elizabeth Cranney of Peabody and Debra Cushing and her husband, Richard of Peabody; his nieces and nephews, Ryan Gagnon, Tara Lejeune and her husband, Eddy, Jennifer Stokes-Greene and her husband, David, Lindsay Gabrielski and Ricky Cushing; his god-daughter Kailey Lejeune and several grandnieces and grandnephews, extended family and many close friends. Bobby was the brother-in-law of the late Michael Cranney.
