DANVERS- Roland "Rollie" Joseph Fournier (Born June 25, 1923), our devoted and greatly loved father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on March 11th, 2013 in Danvers. Roland was raised in Lynn, and as a young man he served in the Navy during WW II aboard the heavy cruiser USS Vincennes which sank off Savo Island. He then signed up to serve in the silent service aboard the submarine USS Silversides (SS-236) engaging in many battles throughout the Pacific theater. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries incurred during service to his country and the free world. He worked for many years in Danvers as a salesman at the Northshore Gas Co. where with his personable nature he seemed to know everybody in town. He was a member and past President of the Danvers Chamber of Commerce and also belonged to the Franco American Club in Beverly. Rollie was a vivacious and energetic man who was very involved and active in many endeavors. With every project or endeavor that he took on, be it building the garage, pool, finely crafted furniture and so many others, the job wasn't finished until it was done to his own nearly perfect specifications. He was a self-made man of many physical and intellectual talents. He was extraordinarily knowledgeable on a wide variety of topics from astronomy to woodworking and had the remarkable ability to share his talents with all. Rollie enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing and golfing, as well as playing poker, pool and cribbage. He loved telling jokes amongst his family and friends. Of this talent he had few peers. He could go on for hours and he would usually end up laughing at his own jokes just before the punch line. Roland will be missed immensely by many. Of the many things he enjoyed throughout his very active life, none compared to the joy he received from spending time with his beloved family. We have been blessed with the most wonderful and caring father. We will be forever grateful for his unconditional love, guidance and wisdom given freely throughout our lives, and for the sacrifices he made for his family and country to make our lives safer and enriched. Roland was predeceased by his wife Marie Yvette Fournier, his mother Itha Tremblay Fournier Belliveau, his father Odilon Fournier, his sister Claire Music, and brothers Gene and Armand Fournier and Peter Belliveau. Roland is survived by his daughters Jeannine and her husband Richard Curtis, Paulette and her husband Phil Chesley, and his son Marc and his wife Pamela Fournier. He leaves 8 cherished grandchildren: Sarah, Emilie, David and Damaris Curtis, Jennifer Caddigan, Elizabeth Stone, Nathan Chesley and Marshall Fournier. Roland delighted in seeing his four great-grandchildren Sydney and Hailey Caddigan, Phoebe Curtis and Annalise Chesley. He also survived by his brothers Paul and Phillip Fournier and Thomas Belliveau. Dad thank you for all the wonderful memories. We would also like to thank the loving and caring staff of Putnam Farms in Danvers and the Hospice of the North Shore for your compassionate care.
