SALEM – Mrs. Ruth A. (Cullinane) Campbell, 80 of Salem, beloved wife of the late John J. “Jack” Campbell passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 12, 2021 in the comfort of her home, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Somerville, Ruth was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Charlotte (Pero) Cullinane. Raised and educated in Revere, Ruth was a graduate of Revere High School.
As a young woman, Ruth volunteered as a candy striper at Massachusetts General Hospital, and then worked as a bank teller for several years until her marriage to Jack. Through their love and devotion, they worked together to provide a warm and loving home for their children and embarked on a family business which would last generations and bring great joy to all who visited. First starting their journey on Revere Beach, Ruth supported her husband as he began working at the arcades in the well-known amusement area. Known for their hard work, in 1972, the Campbell family was presented the opportunity to purchase the Salem Willows Arcade. A dream that turned into a reality, Ruth and Jack worked hand in hand to own and operate the Salem Willows Arcade for decades, leaving a legacy for many generations to come.
A longtime resident of the Salem Willows, Ruth was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends, enjoying life, full of love and laughter. Always prepared to have a great time, Ruth enjoyed her summer and winter months at Lake Winnipesaukee, boating, travelling or simply just enjoying the company of her family. Her outgoing personality endeared her to many, as she was kind, caring and motherly to all. She held a special place for all those who she employed over the years. Her memory will be carried on through her family, friends, and the many lives she touched. She will be sorely missed.
Ruth is survived by her children, Troy Campbell and his wife Laureen, Patricia Crawford and her husband Charles and Eric Campbell and his wife Christine, all of Salem; her grandchildren, Aaron and John Campbell of Salem, Ashley Shattuck of Gilmanton, NH, Michael Crawford of Beverly, Skye and Brooke Campbell of Salem; her great-grandson, Declan Shattuck of Gilmanton, NH and her brother, John Cullinane of Boxford. Ruth was the mother of the late Michelle Campbell and sister of the late Charles Cullinane.
