BOXFORD – Mrs. Ruth E. (Gamble) Rollins, 94 of Boxford, beloved wife of the late Arthur M. Rollins Sr., died peacefully Sunday, April 11th, 2021 at her home.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Trask) Gamble. She was raised and educated in Boxford and was a graduate of Topsfield High School, Class of 1944. She continued her education at Salem Commercial School with a focus on Accounting.
Mrs. Rollins began her professional career with the former Halpern Tannery in Peabody as a bookkeeper until the time of her marriage in 1947. Upon her marriage, she began her large, loving family of nine children and devoted her life to creating a warm and loving home while simultaneously operating Charles M. Rollins Co, Inc. with her husband Arthur. Ruth was integral to the success of the business. An astute and seasoned businesswoman, she excelled in accounting and ran the office of the company. Ruth and Arthur were a great team and were highly respected for their professional acumen and quality work of their business. Upon the passing of Arthur, Ruth led the company as the President continuing the four-generation legacy of success.
A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, Ruth was truly devoted to her family. She was a fantastic cook and enjoyed baking for her family. She always made the holidays a special time in the Rollins home. Christmas was her favorite and she always filled her home with the spirit of the season. She was known for her abundant and beautiful holiday decorations and always took great pride in hosting family events.
Ruth truly lived a full life. She relished spending time in her garden, completing crossword puzzles and reading. She excelled at investing and followed the stock markets. She embraced technology, computerized the business accounting system, and enjoyed her iPad to the end. She enjoyed her cocker spaniels and spending time in Nantucket. Over the years she was a benefactor to the Boxford Fire Department. Above all else, Ruth was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and will be remembered for her devotion to both.
Ruth is survived by her children, Marjorie Doherty of Danvers, Arthur Rollins Jr of Georgetown, George Rollins and his wife, Joan of Groveland, Jeffrey Rollins of Rowley, Nancy Willis of Salem, NH, Judy Durkee and her husband, David of Groveland, Christopher Rollins and his wife, Mauricia of Manchester-by-the-Sea and Melissa Rollins of New York, NY, her 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, her sister, Jane Durkee of Wenham, her brother, George Gamble and his wife, Sally of Danvers and many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was the mother of the late Marcia Rollins and sister of the late Katherine Noyes, Edith Marshall and William and Raymond Gamble.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service which will be held in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers, Saturday, April 17th at 12:30 PM. Visiting hours prior to the service from 10 AM to 12 Noon. All attendees are required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing and are respectfully asked for no physical contact with the family. Burial in Harmony Cemetery, Boxford.
