PEABODY - Stewart W. Nelson passed away on November 17th, 2022, succumbing to cancer, under the care of Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA.
Stewart was born on February 23, 1944, in Holyoke, MA to Margaret (Stewart) and Stevenson Nelson. He graduated from The Mount Hermon School in 1962 and from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1966.
Stu had a successful career as a Sales Representative for commercial heating and air conditioning equipment, first with the Trane Company and then in his own business, Nelson Scribner Associates. He was widely respected for his professional and business skills and especially for his honesty.
Strange, perhaps, that a boy from central Massachusetts developed such a passion for boats but Stu surely did. He bought the first of his many boats with his first commission check. Many of his happiest days were spent at the wheel or the tiller of some craft. If there were fish to be caught, all the better.
Stu played golf as a member of Charles River Country Club (Newton, MA), Kenmure Country Club (Flat Rock, NC) and on many golf-destination vacations. When not golfing Stu devoted time to his valued woodworking avocation. His family and friends’ treasure many of his skilled and artful creations.
Stu and his wife, Suzanne (Gear) were together for 36 years. On boats, golf courses, re-modeling or building their several homes, traveling at home and abroad, and hosting extended family gatherings, they enjoyed a fun and loving married life together.
Besides Suzanne, Stewart leaves behind his sister, Gail Morris of South Hadley and nieces, Lisa Wyman (Hawaii), Heather Morris (Duxbury, MA), and Elizabeth Clark (Litchfield, NH.) He will be missed by his extended Robbins family and by his lifelong friends of more than five decades.
