PEABODY- Mrs. Sylvia L. (Grachefsky) Bernstein, age 82, of Peabody, beloved wife of the late Norman Bernstein, entered eternal rest June 21st, 2013 at Blueberry Hill Nursing Center in Beverly with her daughter by her side.

Sylvia, affectionately known as Sandy, was born in Boston, Mass., on September 1, 1930, the daughter of the late Morris and Eva (Lamb) Grachefsky. She grew up in Dorchester, enjoying time with family; aunts, uncles and cousins. Sandy was a graduate of the Hickox Secretarial School in Boston, and she began her work career at a Boston law firm as a legal secretary.

She married her love, Norman in 1954, and they moved to Peabody shortly thereafter where they raised their family. Sandy was an extraordinarily loving and devoted wife and mother, and her greatest passion in life was her family's happiness. Sandy was gifted with talents for cooking and baking, which she so enjoyed and was famous for delighting friends with her decadent chocolate tarts.

Sandy was a long time member of Temple Beth Shalom of Peabody and a member of ORT at the temple. Sandy was a beautiful person inside and out, with a gentle and compassionate spirit. All that met her and knew her felt her heart of gold. She will be deeply missed.

Sandy is survived by her loving children; daughter, Elin Treanor of Concord, N.H. and son, Stu Bernstein of Peabody. Sandy was blessed with many dear cousins and shared a special relationship with Cousin Irene. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Shawn Treanor, who adored her so.

The family wishes to thank the outstanding staff at Blueberry Hill for their incredible "angel care" for Mom.
