Una Hyland O’Connor Obituary

DANVERS - Una Hyland O’Connor (Kernan), 91, of Panama City Beach, FL, and formerly of Danvers, MA, passed away on August 11, 2020.  She was born on July 10, 1929 in Dublin, Ireland, and emigrated to the United States in the early sixties.

Una, a successful businesswoman, ran a marketing research corporation for nearly 50 years providing key insights into American retail consumer behavior to her household name clients. Una will be remembered as a generous person always willing to extend the hand of friendship and support to those in need and no more so than to her fellow Irish countrymen and women who followed her path to the Lady of Liberty.  Una’s home was always full of exciting activity and it is not hard to imagine Una and her late husband Jack lighting up a room somewhere with “craic agus ceol” (fun and music).  Una enjoyed world travel and visited many foreign countries including China, Egypt, Vietnam, the Galapagos Islands, and Europe.

She finally retired at the age of 86 and moved to Florida with her sister Anne Kernan (deceased) to live with her son John Hyland, her daughter-in-law Joan Altenpohl and family in Panama City Beach.  Most recently, she resided at Seagrass Village.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Philip J. Hyland, her second husband, John O’Connor (Jack), her son, Philip L. Hyland, her son, Frederick Hyland, her brother Gerard Kernan and her sister Anne Kernan. Una is survived by her son, John Hyland of Florida, Stephen Hyland of Ireland, her brother Denis of Ireland, and eight grandchildren (Shannon, Kathryn, Stephanie, Michael, Keelyanne, Pierce, Frederick, and Harry).

ARRANGEMENTS:  Relatives and friends are invited to say goodbye to Una at the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers, Thursday, August 20th from 10 AM to 12 noon. Immediately following, a graveside service will be held in Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers. Also, the ashes of her beloved sister Anne will be buried with Una.  Una will be laid to rest next to her son, Philip and her second husband, Jack.  A private viewing will also be held at the Wilson funeral home in Panama City, Florida. All attendees are required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing and are respectfully asked for no physical contact with the family.
