SALEM – Mr. William P. Attridge, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 12th, 2023 at Beverly Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late James and Josephine (O’Brien) Attridge. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Engelhardt) Attridge, with whom he celebrated 20 years of marriage.
After his graduation from Saint Mary’s High School in 1945, William enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, where he served as a medic and surgical nurse at the Annapolis Navy Base. Upon his honorable discharge in 1947 he went on to attend Boston College where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in economics.
William was of the Catholic faith and a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Salem. He worked for many years in the maintenance department at Salem Hospital prior to his retirement in 1995. He also was a caregiver throughout his life, helping with estates. William was a quiet man who had immense love for his family. He enjoyed going out to breakfast with his beloved wife, Patricia, and taking trips around town antiquing.
In addition to his wife, Patricia Attridge, he is survived by his children; James Attridge and his wife, Leigh of Beverly, Paula Hilliard and her husband, Russ of Hampton Falls, NH, Joanna L’Italien and her husband, Tom of Peabody, Elizabeth Baillargeon and her husband, Mark of Gonic, N.H, and Julie Bonaiuto and her husband, Frank of Amesbury, stepchildren; Nina Bernard and her husband, Steve of NY, Kathy O’Brien and her wife, Pam of Lynn, and Danny O’Brien and his wife, Joanne of NH, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his children; John Attridge, Marian Pierce, and Maureen Kulak.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service, which will be held in O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM on Friday, November 17th at 10:30AM. A gathering will be held prior to the service from 10 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be private.
