SALEM- Mr. William “Billy” McHugh, of Salem, passed away suddenly on April 5, 2021at Salem Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Salem he was the son of the late James and Madeline (Condon) McHugh. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School. Billy was raised in the Gallows Hill area of Salem, growing up he had been an outstanding athlete, he excelled in Basketball and Softball and led his team to many championships playing quarterback in the Salem touch football league.
At the age of sixteen he went to work at John Flynn & Sons where he worked for many years to help support his family and was very generous to his siblings.
A loving and generous brother, uncle and friend, family was most important to Billy. He enjoyed being involved with his nieces and nephews many activities and was always there to support his family friends. As a young man he enjoyed going to Wonderland Dog Park with his friends, when he won a lot of money he would share with family and friends. He will be fondly remembered for his love of family, his generosity and loyalty and deeply missed by his loving family and friends.
Surviving Billy are his sisters, Dolores Lampron and her husband Paul, Rosemary Jones and her husband Tim and their two sons, Joshua and Andrew Jones and his brother Michael McHugh, his lifelong friends, Norma and Robert Eon and their family, Linda, Susan, Eddie, Michael and grandchildren, Karl and Cassidy Mann and Ariel and Cameron Eon and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late James McHugh, Marilyn Vandervelde, Richard McHugh, Helen Maguire, Elizabeth Rust, Mary McHugh and John McHugh.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service which will be held in O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem on Friday, April 9th at 11:30 A.M. Visiting hours prior to the service from 9 to 11 AM. Burial is private. All attendees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Billy’s memory to the Salvation Army Salem Corps Community Center, 93 North St. Salem, MA 01970.
