MARBLEHEAD – Mr. Amando A. Colangelo, 72, of Marblehead, a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, died Wednesday, July 17th, 2024.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Josephine (Carco) Medige and Amando N. Colangelo. He was raised and educated in East Boston and Winthrop. He was a graduate of Winthrop High School, Class of 1969.

Amando served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, joining the service at the age of 17.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Bronze Star, and the Aircraft Crewman Badge.

The time Amando spent defending his country had a profound impact on his life. He was extremely proud of his military service and truly gave his life to his country.

Amando was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He was known for his generous, kind spirit. He never missed an opportunity to help a friend or a stranger in need.  He was a loving son, brother and uncle.

Amando is survived by his son Amando Colangelo of Wakefield; his sisters Elaine (Robert) Stasio of Peabody and Jennie (Jonathan) Putnam of Marblehead; and his nieces and nephews, Robyn (Jeffrey) Sadowski, Juli (John) Hunt, Magdelaina, Elizabeth and Samuel Putnam; and several great-nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Amando's funeral service will be held at the Massachusetts National Veterans Cemetery, Connery Ave, Bourne on Thursday, July 25th at 10 A.M.  Relatives and friends are invited.  Please meet at the cemetery by 9:40 A.M.
