PEABODY – Mrs. Ann Marie (Vallance) Velten, 83, of Brooksby Village, Peabody, beloved wife of Wayne Velten, died peacefully, February 17th, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Winchester MA, she was the daughter of the late William and Eleanor (Lafayette) Vallance. She was raised and educated in Stoneham, MA and was a graduate of Stoneham High School, class of 1960. She continued her education at Shephard Gill Nursing School in Boston.
Mrs. Velten had been employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse, she was always so caring with her helping touch. As a geriatric nurse, she cared for many patients and families and treated each and every one as one of her own. She dedicated part of her nursing career to certifying and training nurses’ aides in geriatric and dementia care.
Ann married the love of her life, Wayne 62 years ago. They built an unbreakable partnership together. They had a fantastic life, led by Ann's outgoing nature and can-do attitude. They complimented each other perfectly in every way and supported each other in all their endeavors and interests. Together they enjoyed the Inter Church Association (ICA), which was a group of likeminded faithful couples that did charitable work and enjoyed each other's company socially for many, many years. This group of friends truly became family, as their children also became friends and they often volunteered together and traveled the world. As a mother, Ann was active in all of her children's activities. From being a Cub Scout and Camp Fire Girl Leader to teaching Sunday School at Community Covenant Church. Ann was a constant presence throughout her children’s lives.
Ann never turned down a social event. She was an active golfer, who was the founder of The Sunshine Girls Golf League at Cape Ann Golf Course. Ann and Wayne golfed in 48 contiguous states, making friends and memories along the way.
Her heart extended to charities, as she raised funds for many organizations, including the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of her best friend and walking partner, Carolyn Colbert. She even walked 3 marathons with Carolyn, Anchorage Alaska, Bermuda and the Marine Marathon in Washington DC.
A 47-year resident of West Peabody, Ann moved to Brooksby Village and continued to make new friends and impact those around her. In her down time, she enjoyed quality time with family and friends, always creating new memories. Her thoughtfulness for others made her who she was.
Family was always the heart of her and she was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren; she was always there to support their school and sport activities. She relished time as a grandmother and laid a foundational path for those in her family to follow. She was truly a great woman who exemplified family values. She had an extraordinary life full of friends, family and adventures.
Ann is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wayne Clifford Velten of Peabody, her children, Timothy Scott Velten and his girlfriend, Amanda of Haverhill MA, Tammy Tripodi and her husband, Steven of Atkinson NH and Tracey Costantino and her husband, Christopher of Groveland, her grandchildren, Nicholas, Lukas, Benjamin Tripodi, Nathan, Mathew, Alexandria and Timothy Costantino, her brothers Robert Vallance and his wife, Mary, Peter Vallance and David Vallance and his wife Mary, brother in law Robert Frates and sisters-in-law, Joyce Turner and Janet McLaughlin as well as many nieces and nephews.
