BOXFORD - Barbara (Vogel) Cleveland, 99, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the Masconomet Healthcare Center in Topsfield just 3 months shy of her 100th birthday.

Born June 28, 1917 in Hackettstown, New Jersey, Barbara was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Elsie (Kurgschenkel) Vogel. Raised and educated in West Orange, New Jersey, Barbara was a graduate of West Orange High School. Later in life, she continued her education at Northeastern University.

Barbara is survived by her 4 daughters, Barbara A. Cleveland and her partner Susan Parness of Belfast, ME & Berkeley, CA, Eileen (Cleveland) Sterio and her husband James F. of Boxford, Gail (Cleveland) Johns and her husband Conrado A. of Beverly, and Carol (Cleveland) Bell and her husband Thomas H. Bell III of Lynnfield, her 4 grandchildren, Conrado A. Johns Jr. of NYC, Jennifer Johns-Allan of West Hartford, CT, Dr. Thomas W. Sterio of Marblehead, Rev. Leanne S. Walt of Scituate, her 2 step-grandchildren, Marianne (Bell) Nutter of Londonderry, NH and Diana (Bell) Greider of Newburyport, her 8 great-grandchildren, her sister, June Kliminski and her husband John of Whippany, NJ and many nieces and nephews. Barbara was pre-deceased by her granddaughter Christine Vogel Sterio, her 7 sisters and her brother, and her former husband, Eric G. Cleveland.

Barbara considered her role as a wife and mother to be her greatest joy. Providing a warm and loving home for her family was paramount. Her caring nature, loving heart, positive outlook, and strong faith will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Barbara raised her family in Melrose were she was active in community service and volunteer work. She and her family were active members of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 10 years, and was a member of the Couples Club. She was the co-founder of the Mother of Twins Club of the Northshore. Barbara was a member of The Winchester Country Club where she was a member of the Ladies Golf League for many years.

The family would like to offer their deepest gratitude to the staff at Masconomet Health Care Center for their care, love and compassion for our beloved Mother for the past 8 years. ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in the Second Congregational Church, 173B Washington St., West Boxford on Friday, March 31 at 10:30 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Assisting the family with arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rt. 62) Danvers.
