Obituary

DANVERS - Barbara E. (Martin) Maxfield, 102, a resident of Danvers for 55 years, passed away early Thursday morning, October 13th, 2022 at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly. We'd like to thank everyone at the facility for their devotion to caring for our mom. She was the loving wife, for 33 years, of the late Harold C. Maxfield.

Born in Gloucester on July 13, 1920, she was the cherished daughter of the late Waldo C. and Mary (Reynolds) Martin. She was raised and educated in Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School.

Barbara was a fabulous cook and many people enjoyed her home cooked meals. She also did lots of knitting and sewing. For countless years, she followed the Bruins, Red Sox, and Patriots, and loved all outdoor sports—especially cross country skiing with her daughters, swimming at Crane's Beach, and walking and hiking. She had a generous spirit, was always humble and courageous, and had good "old fashioned" values and Yankee ingenuity.

She leaves behind her loving children—Pamela A. Maxfield, Nancy (Maxfield) Hooper, David B. Maxfield, and Harold C. Maxfield, Jr., his wife Janet, in addition to her grandchildren—Benjamin Maxfield, Paige (Maxfield) Macken, and four great grandchildren—Adam James Sawyer, Mya Maxfield, Grace Macken, and Liam Macken along with many nieces and nephews, including her favorite nephews, Wayne and William Martin. Bobbi, as she was affectionately known during her childhood years, was predeceased by twelve siblings: George Martin, Elizabeth Martin, Annie Mae Martin, Waldo Martin, Jr., Dora Withrow, Lillian Kerr, Margaret Allen, Adeline Handran, Mary Maxfield, Winifred Burnham, Lucille Haven, William Martin and her much beloved, seafaring grandfather, Captain George Bruce Carter Martin.

ARRANGEMENTS:  Barbara's funeral service was privately held. Assisting the family with the arrangements was O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) DANVERS.
