Obituary

BEVERLY – Mrs. Barbara A. Byrne, 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 27th, 2023, at Ledgewood Nursing Center. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John and Charlotte (Johnson) Splaine. Barbara was the wife of Edward J. Byrne with whom she celebrated 52 years of marriage.

Raised and educated in Salem, Barbara graduated from Salem High School in 1945 and after graduation worked at New England Telephone as did many of her close friends. For over five decades, many Tuesday evenings were spent socializing with the "club girls", dear friends from the phone company, including her sisters. She left the phone company to start a family and after raising her seven daughters, she went on to work as a receptionist for many years at Tinti, Quinn, and Savoie Law Offices.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, family was everything to her and the home she provided her family was full of love and warmth. She was her happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her later years living at Ledgewood, visits were always welcome. Barbara's beautiful blue eyes and smile lit up the room every time she received a visitor, whether it be a family member, a friend or one of her beloved Ledgewood caregivers bringing her a simple cup of coffee. She appreciated each day on this earth and not a day went by that she did not express how blessed she was.

She lived a simple life and found joy in watching Red Sox games, doing her crosswords, and sitting in her chair by her favorite window watching visitors come and go. She enjoyed participating in many activities at Ledgewood Nursing Center including her weekly prayer group where she took solace in reciting the Rosary.

Barbara's family would like to acknowledge and thank the loving and devoted staff of Ledgewood for their support and dedication to her and her family during the four years she was a resident and for their grace and kindness in her final days.

Barbara is survived by her 7 daughters: Catherine Moskovis of Salem, Mary Little and her husband, James of Beverly, Joanne Griffin and husband, Kerry of Salem, Margaret Cornacchio of Salem, Patricia O'Brien and her husband, James of Freemont, NH, Anne O'Shea and her husband Patrick of Peabody, Julie Theriault and her husband, Donald of Salem, her cousin Judy Sterns and husband, Larry of Martha's Vineyard along with 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
