HAWORTH, NEW JERSEY - Mrs. Barbara Ellen (Bittner) Stillman, 91, formerly of Haworth, NJ and the loving wife of the late Walter R. Stillman, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5th, 2026, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA after a brief illness.
Born in Englewood, New Jersey, on May 12, 1935, Barbara was the daughter of the late Gerhardt and Frances (Taylor) Bittner. She was raised and educated in Tenafly, New Jersey and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Michigan in 1957.
Barbara pursued a brief career in education as a second-grade teacher. She then dedicated herself to being a wife and mother after the birth of her first child.
Barbara loved attending Broadway musicals, visiting art museums and traveling throughout Europe. Her greatest passion, however, was spending time with her family.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Laura Nietzer and her husband, Paul, of Hewitt, NJ; her son, Thomas Wheeler and his wife, Jill, of Ipswich, MA; three step-children, John Stillman of Mahwah, NJ, Lynne Koerner of Mahwah, NJ, and Lyle Carter and her husband, Warwick, of Darien, CT; grandson, Jonathon Wheeler and his wife, Mihaela, of Raleigh, NC, granddaughter, Emily Sisto and her husband, William, of Jersey City, NJ, step-grandchildren Julia Carter, Warwick Carter, Cecily Carter, Seamus Cogshall, Madelyn Stillman, Maeve Stillman, William Stillman, and Kate Stillman, and great granddaughters Josephine Wheeler and Elouise Sisto for whom she was an adored and adoring “Grammy.” Barbara was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Griffith, and her stepson, Robert Stillman.
ARRANGEMENTS: At the family’s request, all services for Barbara will be privately held. Assisting the family with the arrangements is O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) DANVERS, MA.
