IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bardwell C.
Salmon
December 10, 1940 – February 14, 2024
PEABODY - Mr. Bardwell C. Salmon 83, of Peabody, formerly of Hingham, beloved husband of Cynthia (Marshall) Salmon, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, February 14th, 2024.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Chenery and Mary (Cooper) Salmon. He was raised and educated in Hingham and was a graduate of Hingham High School. Bardwell continued his education at M.I.T. where he received his bachelor's degree studying Civil and Environmental Engineering. He went on to earn his Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in Finance & Marketing from Northwestern University – Kellogg School of Management.
Bard, nicknamed "Bojey" by those close to him, and "BC" by the grandkids, was an entrepreneur from the start. He operated his own business, "Salmon Tree Service", in his hometown of Hingham. After graduating from college, he joined Bethlehem Steel Corporation in their "Looper" management training program. A year later, to fulfill his ROTC obligations, he joined the US Army Corps of Engineers as a 2nd Lt. at Fort Belvoir, VA. Next was Paratrooper School at Fort Benning, GA with a final assignment at Fort Leonard Wood, MO where he helped to integrate one of the segregated companies. After Operation Desert Strike, building his first airfield, and becoming a 1st Lt., he was anxious to get out and returned to Bethlehem Steel in Chicago. Two years later he joined Honeywell Information Systems in computer sales, his home for thirteen years. As he moved up the ranks in sales management he moved to MI, MA and finally MN where he was VP responsible for the Italian and French business units. Realizing that mainframe computers were on their way out, he left Honeywell for the early-stage venture world. First stop was Prolink in Boulder, CO; followed by five years at ComputerVision, in MA where he became President of OIR and eventually VP General Manager of Worldwide Marketing and North American Sales. The MIT Enterprise Forum caught his interest, where he became very active with twelve years on their board. During that time, he helped to co-found the Technology Capital Network at MIT, became its Chairman for twelve years and was involved as an Advisor for many more. After ComputerVision he became President of LaserPlot (an electronic mapping company), Co-founded EagleView (a digital talent search firm) where he received a patent, Co-founded RealityWave (Internet software for large 3D models) with two MIT Seniors (later sold to AVEVA), and then Co-founded Perillon (an environmental software company) where he was Chair/CEO. Bard was well known in his field and often sought after for his expertise, which he gave generously.
After 19 moves, but before retiring, Bard and Cindy renovated an antique farmhouse "Sunset Farm" in Groton, MA, which they operated as a Bed & Breakfast. At the same time, Bard and his family enjoyed life at their lake house on Newfound Lake in Bristol, New Hampshire making many lasting memories. Outgoing and fun-loving Bard had many interests including scuba diving which he did every weekend in the summer, diving for lobsters. He loved ice hockey which he played into his 80's. Bard coached his grandkids' hockey teams while they were growing up, as well as his daughter's adult woman's hockey team. Bard would even play in tournaments with all three grandchildren. When Bard finally retired, he and Cindy moved to Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA. Yet retirement didn't stop him. Bard joined several committees at Brooksby where he continued to share his expertise. He always had something valuable to say and was a gentleman in the way he did it.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Bard was happiest surrounded by his family enjoying many activities. He was loved and will be forever remembered for his love of family, his ever-present smile and deeply missed by his loving family and the many hearts he touched throughout his life. Don't cry because he is gone, smile because he came into your life.
Surviving Bard in addition to his high school sweetheart, his wife Cindy with whom he shared 63 years of marriage, is his daughter, Cheryl L. Wyatt and her husband, David of Amherst, NH, his grandchildren, Christopher W. Gordon of Amherst, NH, Jaclyn T. Shaban and her husband, Bradley of Moseley, VA, his great-granddaughters, Charlotte, Josie and Daphne of Moseley, VA, and his youngest grandson, Austin J. Gordon of Groton, MA. He was also the father of the late Douglas B. Salmon and the brother of the late William C. Salmon.
