PEABODY – Mr. Bernardo Vargas 59, of Peabody, beloved husband of Maria Mercedes Santiago, died unexpectedly July 28th, 2023 after a medical incident at home.

Born in Moca, Dominican Republic, he was the son of the late Juan and Hilda (Vargas) Vargas. He was raised and educated in Moca, D.R. and immigrated to the United States in 2001, making Peabody his new home.

Mr. Vargas had been employed as a banquet manager in the hospitality industry.

A loving husband and father, Bernardo had a true and deep passion for baseball. He loved supporting his favorite baseball the Boston Red Sox. He had a deep passion for music and could often be found playing the drums and guitar. He would often spontaneously begin singing and a musical interlude would break out with family and friends. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody. Above all else he will be remembered for his love of family and his strong and devoted faith.

Bernardo is survived by his loving wife, Maria Mercedes Santiago, his children, Meredith Vargas, Joan Vargas and Jeffrey Vargas all of Peabody and many extended family and friends.

ARRANGEMENTS: His Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Chestnut St., Peabody, Friday, August 4th at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited.
