Blythe Bohnen Ashton, 82, died peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, October 15th, 2022 in Massachusetts. Blythe was born in Evanston, Illinois and for most of her adult life lived in New York City, followed by Westport, Connecticut with her late husband, John F. Ashton. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Bohnen and Dorothy Clark, residents of Evanston, Illinois.
Blythe earned a bachelor of arts from Smith College, a bachelor of fine arts at Boston University and a master's degree of fine arts from Hunter College.
Blythe was an internationally recognized minimal, conceptual and process artist, known under her maiden name Blythe Bohnen. Her work continues to be discussed and included in notable exhibitions at leading museums across the world. Blythe became one of the founding members of A.I.R. Gallery in New York City, the first cooperative exhibition space for women in the United States.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will be a private family service in Cornwall, Connecticut, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband John.
