Brian Robert Forster's Obituary

Listen to Obituary

PRESTON, CT- Mr. Brian Robert Forster 51, of Preston, Ct., formerly of Danvers, died unexpectedly, Monday, May 30, 2016 following a brief illness. Born in Salem, he was the son of Robert and Jean (Lusk) Forster. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Danvers High School, Class of 1983. He continued his education at the University of Rhode Island earning his degree in 1987. Brian was an outstanding athlete from a young age. He excelled in baseball, hockey and football. As a young boy he was known throughout the Town of Danvers for his baseball prowess - leading his little league team to all-star greatness and the District and Sectional Division Championships. In high school, Brian found his true passion for football. He will go down as one of the greatest football players to ever wear the Blue and White of the Danvers High School Falcons. He was a tremendous tight end and received numerous accolades for his ability on the gridiron. His senior season he had 32 catches for 700 yards and ten touch downs and was a tremendous route runner and blocker. He was selected as one of the top five Danvers Falcon Football players of all time by the Salem News in 2014 and was elected to the Danvers High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. He continued his academic and football career at the University of Rhode Island. He was a starter for four years with the University of Rhode Island Rams. Through his hard work and determination, Brian rewrote the URI receiving record book. He held every school record for receiving and many Conference, New England and tight end 1AA national marks. He was selected All-American for his play on two consecutive occasions. His URI records included most receptions and yards in a game, season, and career. Forster's 3,944 career receiving yards are 1,200 more than any other Rhode Island receiver. He helped lead the Rams to two NCAA playoff appearances, in 1984 and 1985. He was inducted to the URI Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004 and was also elected to the National Collegiate Football Hall of Fame.

Brian's tough exterior on the football field was opposite of his true personality. He endeared himself to many off the field, with his friendly nature and sense of humor. He had many lifelong friends. Their relationships may have begun on the athletic fields, but their true bond lasted throughout the miles and years. Brian will be deeply missed.

He loved all sports and made athletics his career. Brian was a former Golf Professional in Kingstown, RI and most recently he was employed as the Assistant General Manager of the Newington Ice Arena.

Brian is survived by his mother, Jean (Lusk) Forster of Danvers, his father, Robert Forster of Florida, his sister, Jody Forster of Lake Forest, CA, his brother Donald Forster of California, his nieces, Amy, Donna and Kelley Forester, his great Nephews, Bradyn and Avery, his companion Jean Deluca of Danvers and many dear friends and teammates.
