DANVERS - C. Dexter Cook, 92 of Danvers, husband of the late Patricia Cook, died peacefully on February 15th, 2025 surrounded by his family. Born in Beverly on July 30th, 1932, he was the son of the late William and Helen (Richards) Cook.
Dexter was raised in Danvers and graduated from Holten High School in 1950. He attended Williams College and graduated in 1954 with a degree in chemistry. He worked for DuPont Labs in New Jersey before he was drafted into the United States Army, serving two years active duty and 6 years in the reserves. After his honorable discharge, Dexter worked as a chemist for Cabot Corporation for over 35 years until retirement.
As a child, Dexter recited the Gettysburg Address from the Danvers Town Hall on Memorial Day. He later became a lector at St. Richard's Church, his family's parish.
Dexter was a classical pianist and enjoyed attending performances of the Boston Symphony. He also was an avid skier and spent many winter weekends with his children at Hamilton Slopes. He loved to fish, an interest he shared with family during summer vacations on the Belgrade Lakes in Maine. Dexter was a member of the YMCA, where he swam daily for many years. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time outdoors with his grandchildren and his golden retrievers. Dexter spent the last year of his life living next to his son Shane at The Arbors in Dracut, sharing their love of the Boston Red Sox and golf.
Dexter is survived by his son, Declan and Paul Tremblay of Deming, New Mexico, daughter, Maria of Beverly and Paul Robertson, daughter, Deirdre and Michael Fennelly of Warren, Vermont, and son, Shane and Jennifer Cook of Dracut. His grandchildren include Maeve, Ian, Andrew and Olivia Robertson, Evan, Colin and Annie Fennelly, and Jayden, Kiara and Brody Cook. He was predeceased by sisters, Nancy Page Cook and Shirley Cook Riggs.
ARRANGEMENTS: At the family's request, all services are private. Donations may be made to St. Mary of the Annunciation School, 14 Otis Street, Danvers, MA 01923, where his children and several grandchildren were educated by the Sisters of Notre Dame.
