Deacon Carl M. Roberts Jr. 65, of Topsfield, beloved husband of Corinne M. (Conley) Roberts died unexpectedly Sunday morning, September 16th, 2012.
Born in Newton, he was the son of the late Carl M. Sr. and Regina (Herlihy) Roberts. He was raised and educated in Weymouth and was a graduate of Weymouth High School, Class of 1965. During his high school years he met the love of his life, his wife Corinne. He was a multi-sport athlete at Weymouth High School. He continued his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. and at Northeastern University.
An engineer by trade, Carl had been employed for many years with Analog Devices in Wilmington. He rose through the ranks at Analog earning the title of Director of Engineering and Division Fellow. Throughout his professional career, he and his wife traveled extensively living in many different communities including Thailand and California, before being able to make their home in Topsfield, 32 years ago. Carl will be remembered as a brilliant technologist who left his mark with several U.S. Patents.
Carl entered the Diaconate Formation program through St. John's Seminary in 2002. He was ordained a Deacon in the Archdiocese of Boston at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross by his Eminence Cardinal Sean O'Malley on September 9th, 2006. He served as Deacon at Our Lady of Hope Parish in Ipswich for six years. He was deeply loved by the community at Our Lady of Hope. He volunteered at St. Basil's Cursillo Community and served as assistant Spiritual Director on many Cursillo teams throughout the years.
He was devoted to his Lord, his church and his family. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who set a proper example of how to live one's life in the uppermost course.
In addition to his high school sweetheart and wife of 44 years, Carl is survived by his sons, Michael Roberts and his wife Kimberly of Beverly and Matthew C. Roberts and his wife Victoria of Essex; his daugh- ter, Leslie Roberts of Topsfield; his grandchildren, James, Kathleen and Holly Roberts; his sister, Sherry Scafati and her husband David of Pelham, N.H.; his brother, David Roberts of Weymouth and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Dana Roberts.
ARRANGEMENTS: His Funeral Mass will be held in St. Rose of Lima Church, Park St., Topsfield, Thursday at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Wake Vigil for Deacon Roberts will be held in Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Linebrook Road, Ipswich, Wednesday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. Burial is private. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) Danvers. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Deacon Roberts' memory to the St. Vincent De Paul Society at either St. Rose of Lima Parish 17 Prospect St., Topsfield, MA 01983 or at Our Lady of Hope Parish, One Pineswamp Road, Ips- wich, MA 01938.
