Obituary

HAMILTON, MA - Carol Kerwin Curry, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died peacefully with family near in her Hamilton, Massachusetts, home on April 2, at the age of 88. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 68 years Robert Curry, their children Tom Curry and his wife Kimberly Ridley, Christine Curry, Tricia and her husband John Glass, Jennifer and her husband David Costello, and seven cherished granddaughters – Kate, Callie, Holly, Elise, Lillian, Eliza and Ivy.

A graduate of Hofstra University, Carol treasured memories of commuting into New York City with her stepfather William Gatter to work as a secretary in the Seagram Building. Later, she and Bob moved to Massachusetts where she taught Montessori school, worked at Talbots, and volunteered for care organizations, including hospice.

Carol was a person of deep faith and a leader in her church community. She loved Boston sports, lobster dinners in Maine, school grandparents' days, licorice, soft sweaters, Manhattans, wild blueberries, Crane Beach, vases of flowers and reading the newspaper with Bob in their sunny dining room. A gifted listener, she could sustain a warm conversation with anyone. Her life was infused with laughter and an insistent embrace of joy.

Born to Kathryn (Hughes) and Edward Kerwin in New York City, at a young age she and her brother Edward moved in with their grandmother in The Bronx. There she learned to be adventurous, and developed a taste for egg creams, penny candy, and a mix of cultures. She met Bob in high school and their love story began. They married in 1956 just after his graduation from University of Pennsylvania and before his deployment as an officer in the U.S. Navy. She is predeceased by her younger sister Katherine and her older brother Edward.
