SAN FRANCISCO – Christian Michael Atchason, 52, of San Francisco, formerly of Salem, died unexpectedly on July 17, 2025 at his home in San Francisco. Born in Kennebunkport, Maine he was the son of David and Kathleen (Ward) Atchason.

Christian was raised and educated in Salem, first attending Bishop Fenwick High School before transferring to Salem High School for his senior year and subsequently graduating. Christian felt a calling to serve his country and joined the United States Army at 17.  He served for several years before rejoining civilian life, earning his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Salem State University and working mostly as a security guard at various establishments. After 9/11 Christian felt the call to again serve his country and re-enlisted in the Army, serving another 4 years.

Christian displayed a profound curiosity about the world around him, and his thirst for knowledge led him to enjoy reading, especially anything involving law or criminal justice. Christian cherished his friendships and took great pleasure in sharing walks, exploring new places, and experiencing the beauty of life alongside those he cared for. He chose San Diego, California as his second home to be closer to those he served with, reflecting his spirit of camaraderie. He eventually settled in San Francisco after falling in love with the many green spaces and walkable streets during a visit with his brother, John.

Christian is predeceased by his mother, Kathleen (Ward) Atchason and his beloved grandparents, John and Pauline (Cadoret) Ward.

Christian is survived by his father, David A. Atchason of Intervale, NH, his brothers, Daniel Atchason of Salem and John Atchason of Melrose, and many cousins and extended family.

ARRANGMENTS: Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial service for Christian which will take place on Friday, August 8th, 2025 at 2P.M. to be held at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., Salem (at Salem common.) Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 226 North Street, Salem. Visiting hours to be held prior to the services from 12P.M. to 2P.M.
