FAIRFIELD, ME - DANVERS, MA – Claire L. Sheldon, 95, of Fairfield, ME, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Lakewood Skilled Nursing in Waterville, ME. She was the beloved wife of the late Philip C. Sheldon, to whom she shared 52 years of marriage. Their enduring partnership was a testament to the strength of their love and commitment.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late George and Justine (Deschene) Dion. She attended St. Joseph’s Regional Catholic School in Salem.
Claire lived a life dedicated to helping others through her work at the Hogan Regional Center in Danvers and Salem Hospital, while bringing warmth and creativity to her family and community through her many hands-on hobbies, some of which were knitting, crocheting, and quilting projects. Claire cherished the companionship of her pets, sharing a particularly close bond with her beloved cat, Mitzi.
Above all, Claire loved her family. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her dedication to her family was evident in every aspect of her life.
She is survived by her two children, her son Philip W. Sheldon and his wife Lisa of Danvers; her daughter Laurie (Sheldon) Bannen and her husband James Jr. of Fairfield, ME, and her four grandchildren, Michael Loomis and his wife Tara, Jonathan Sheldon, Liz VanLandingham, James Bannen III and his wife Jean; seven great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ethan, Georgia, Belle, Elise, Declan, and Sabine; and many loving nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Richard’s Church, 90 Forest Street in Danvers on Friday, August 28, at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours prior to the service are at O’Donnell Funerals – Cremations – Celebrations, 167 Maple Street in Danvers, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial in North Beverly Cemetery. Contributions in Claire’s memory may be made to Lakewood Skilled Nursing, 220 Kennedy Memorial Drive, Waterville, ME 04901. Or you can do a kind deed with thoughts of Claire.
