SALEM – Mrs. Czeslawa “Jessie” Hedio, 99, of Salem, loving wife of the late Jozef Hedio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly, just four days shy of her 100th birthday.

Born in Poland, Jessie was the daughter of the late Wladyslaw Seredynski and Helena (Sawinska) Seredynska. She was raised and educated in the southern part of that country, where she survived the horrors of World War II. Following the war, Jessie and Jozef started their family in Wroclaw, where they worked together to rebuild their lives. They moved to the United States in 1960 and became a part of Salem’s vibrant Polish community.

The couple purchased their home on Boardman Street in 1965, and it became the center of Jessie’s world. The heart of the home was the kitchen, where she prepared traditional Polish meals for countless family gatherings. Next to the kitchen was her sewing room, which was the nerve center of her tailoring business. Jessie’s talent in her seamstress work was well known on the North Shore and she specialized in adapting clothes for special circumstances, altering bridal gowns, and creating apparel. Over the years, she developed a loyal clientele, and many clients became lifelong friends.

In addition to her sewing prowess and phenomenal cooking, Jessie took delight in her garden. She was a devout Roman Catholic and longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem. When her movement was compromised in her later years, she became an avid viewer of the Catholic TV Network. Above all, Jessie was happiest in her home, spending time with her growing family, and looking out for her neighbors from her front porch.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Ledgewood for the endless care and support of Jessie in her final months. They are forever grateful.

Jessie is survived by her children, Sophia O’Brien and her husband Peter of Salem, Stefan Hedio and his wife Linda of Danvers, and Joseph P. Hedio of Salem; her beloved grandchildren, Emily O’Brien and her husband Ian Wells of Beverly, Matthew Hedio of Danvers, and Adam Hedio and his wife Alyssa of Wells, ME; her cherished great-grandchildren, William and Helena Wells and Abraham, Harrison, and Walter Hedio; and extended family in Poland and the United States.
