DANVERS - Mr. Daniel F. Carey III, 54 of Danvers, formerly of Nahant, passed away peacefully December 14th, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous and admirable fight against ALS. Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late Mary (O'Donnell) Fox and the late Daniel F. Carey Jr of Nahant and grandson of the late Hugh and Mary O'Donnell of Woburn and Daniel and Maureen Carey of Nahant. He was raised and educated in Nahant and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1980. Upon graduation he joined the United States Navy and proudly served as a firefighter on the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Constellation. He was stationed in San Diego, California and traveled all over the world. Following his honorable discharge he returned home to Nahant and served the Town as a Firefighter for many years. Danny was an avid Boston Sports enthusiast, an especially devoted fan to his beloved Boston Bruins. His artistic talents developed into his own painting company which he owned for several years, having served clients throughout the North Shore and the Merrimack Valley. In 2010 Danny's love and sense of adventure led him to the Philippines where he resided and raised his daughter until returning home in 2015 due to the progression of his diagnosed ALS. Danny was a proud veteran, a loyal friend, a dedicated and loving son, brother and uncle. His passion for music, his gift for story telling along with his quick wit and unforgettable sense of humor endeared him to all.

Danny was humbled and grateful for this past year at home with his loving family and friends and the tremendous support from his fellow veterans and the VA medical team. His gift of love and laughter will be sadly missed. Affectionately known as Uncle Buzz and Brother Dan to his family and close friends, Danny is survived by his much beloved daughter Mary Kyla of the Philippines, his sister, Lisa Romano and her husband Terry of Danvers and Cheryl Treacy and her husband Jimmy of North Andover, his cherished nieces and nephews Dylan and Connor Treacy and Lauren and Jenna Romano. He is also survived by many favorite aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
