MOUNT DORA, FLORIDA- Mr. Daniel L. Parent, 89, of Mount Dora, Florida, formerly of Salem and Beverly, beloved husband of Patricia (McLaughlin) Parent, died February 25, 2016 at The Edgewater at Waterman Village, Mount Dora, Florida surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Lowell, he was the son of the late Samuel and Stephanie (Zarnowska) Parent.

An honorably discharged veteran, Daniel proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. A well-known and generous man with his time, after serving his country, Dan was the youngest person ever elected, President of the Beverly City Council. A post he later resigned to accept a promotional transfer with IBM. In 1966 after returning to Massachusetts as a District Manager, of IBM, Dan was elected the Democratic Nominee for the United States House of Representatives of the sixth Congressional District. Mr. Parent had a long an illustrious career with IBM Corporation holding several Managerial positions throughout the country for over thirty years.

He was a third and fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, which he received an honorary life membership and was also a former member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

A loving husband and father, he will be forever remembered for his dedication to his family and to his community. His community will remember him of being of caring spirit; he volunteered and served as Long Term Care Ombudsman for the state of Florida for over 5 years and he also will be remembered as an active member and Eucharistic minister of the Catholic Church. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Surviving Dan, in addition to his wife of 64 years, Patricia, are his two daughters, Mary Ann Hoth and her husband John of Barrington, Illinois and Carolyn Parent of Le-Mesil-Le Roi, France, and his 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral Mass will be held in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, North St., Salem/Peabody line on Monday March 28th at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited.
