IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel L.
Winsky
August 15, 1955 – June 16, 2022
SALEM - On Saturday June 18th, 2022, Daniel Winsky passed away in Salem, MA at the age of 66 after a long illness. Daniel was born on August 15th, 1955, in Northampton, MA to Walter and Arlene Winsky.
From the time he could hold a pencil, Daniel was passionate about art. He attended the Art Institute of Boston and alternately resided in Easthampton and the Boston area for 15 years where he worked in advertising and illustration, including art/advertising for the Hardig Co in Deerfield, MA. He moved to Salem, MA in the 1990s where he continued to do commissioned paintings and developed a concentration on interior murals and trompe-l'oeil, creating optical illusions in the paintings. Daniel always kept a sketchbook on hand to create renderings of the interesting characters he encountered in his travels. He took pleasure in teaching others, working to advance literacy in the elderly and leading occasional art classes for individuals and small groups. Daniel appreciated the inherent value of art, and asked of potential commission clients, "Please don't ask me to match a painting to your drapes or couch." He loved games, particularly cribbage, dominoes, scrabble, and billiards and was often seen tooling around Salem on his bicycle wearing a baseball cap with a sketchbook in his basket.
Daniel collected many friends over the years, who appreciated his cutting humor and gumption. Each of these friends undoubtedly has at least one memorable 'Dan story'. Interactions with Daniel were seldom neutral or uneventful. Daniel also loved music and was known to pick up the guitar and belt out renditions of Cash songs late at night, encouraging those brave enough to join in.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Walter, and his mother, Arlene. He is survived by his long-time loving partner, Donna Chalupowski, brothers James Winsky and Paul Winsky, and sisters, Lois Winsky, Donna Martin, and Barbara Winsky, as well as several in laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: A private memorial service will be held at a future date. Assisting the family is O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM.
