David J.
Allen
May 6, 1953 – February 2, 2023
SALEM – David J. Allen, 69, passed away on February 2nd, 2023 at Salem Hospital.
Born and raised in Everett, MA, he was the son of the late Samuel and Florence Allen. He leaves behind his life partner, Norene Gachignard, whom he adored, along with his two beloved sons, Duncan and Douglas. He also leaves behind his brother Barry. Last but not least, he leaves his dog Sophie, who provided him endless love and affection.
David was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Civil Engineering. After graduation, he was a professional civil engineer, helping to create some of the infrastructure in the Greater Boston Area. He then transitioned to computer programming, doing research and development at several companies as well as teaching as an associate professor of Software Engineering at Northeastern University. Finally, he wrapped up his professional career as a mathematics teacher at Lawrence High School.
Along with being very technically minded, David was a lover of the arts, music, outdoors, and good food. He was a longtime patron of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and was an avid fan of Cirque du Soleil. He spent much of retirement traveling with Norene, visiting many of the historic hotels of the United States. He was able to travel to Scotland, where he learned about his family's origins.
He was passionate about skiing, spending many winters when he was young in the Rocky Mountains. He loved taking his sons hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He was also a fantastic cook, and always loved to be adventurous when trying new foods.
The family would like to thank Salem Hospital and the team at Mass General Hospital for their outstanding care and support.
