LYMAN, MAINE – Mr. David James Lavoie, 62, passed away May 3rd, 2026 at Mass General Hospital after a long and courageous battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He had been fighting the many complications for over two years through many ups and downs. His strength and resolve to live have been so incredible and inspiring.
He is survived by his loving wife Helene (Pesant) Langley Lavoie, his step-daughters, Stephanie Langley and her fiancé, Christian Elkington; Abigail Langley and her fiancé, Yannis Kyriakou; and his beloved grandson, Miles. He is also survived by his eight close siblings Theresa Collier and her long-time companion, Mark, Laura Stinnette and her husband, Rich, Paulette Lavoie-Beebe and her long-time companion, Mike, Annette Bilo and her husband, Tony, Jean Ayles and her husband, Tom, Carol Lavoie and her husband, Michael, Philip Lavoie and Joseph Lavoie, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his mother Domenica Abramo Lavoie and father Gerard Lavoie and brother Roy Lavoie.
Dave was raised in Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School where he attended their trades program. Dave was self-taught and developed strong engineering skills throughout his career. He became known as MacGyver. Everyone who knew him would call to ask for his help, because he could problem solve anything. Even at his work at Arthrex, where he worked for over 25 years in multiple roles, he had everyone calling him for his input. No matter if you were a stranger or a lifelong friend, Dave was always willing to lend a hand.
Dave loved boating all his life and more recently with his wife Helene in Maine waters, especially by Richmond Island. If you couldn’t find him, that’s likely where he was. He also loved to snowmobile, ski and watch the Boston Bruins. One of his favorite places was at camp in Millinocket, Maine, where he had many close friends and felt most at home.
Dave taught us so much, and we will forever have his voice in the back of our mind telling us what to do. His legacy will live on through his loved ones and all he has taught us. He has left us too soon, with many more dreams and adventures left on the horizon. We hope to honor those dreams for him. We will forever miss him.
