Obituary

SALEM – Mrs. Deborah Ann Erwin, 76, passed away on Monday, March 6th, 2023 at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Barbara (Hallacey) Downey. She was the wife of Paul Erwin, with whom she celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Mrs. Erwin was raised and educated in Salem, graduating in 1965 from Salem High School, where her and Paul met and became high school sweethearts. Two years after graduation Deborah married the love of her life, and they began their family. She was a devout member of Ste. Anne's Catholic Church in Salem, where she also began her career as the church secretary. Deborah went on to service the Archdiocese of Boston for 25 years in secretarial work before retiring.

Deborah loved traveling and gardening. She was a member of the Salem Garden Club for many years. She and Paul loved to travel, and made trips to Europe and the Hawaiian Islands. When they weren't traveling across oceans, they loved nothing more than taking a long car ride or motorcycle trip somewhere, whether it be Maine or Florida. Deborah was always up for an adventure and making memories.

In addition to her beloved husband, Paul, Deborah is survived by her loving daughter Kelly Erwin of Salem, and son Greg Erwin of Danvers. She is also survived by her brothers Paul Downey and his wife Kathy of Beverly, and Dave Downey and his wife Debbie of CT, and granddaughter Elizabeth Erwin, and many nieces and nephews with whom she loved dearly. She will be missed by all her friends and neighbors. She is preceded in death by her brother Peter Downey, and her sister Mary Ellen and her husband Kelly McGonnell.
