SALEM – Mr. Dickran “Dick” Avigian, 96, beloved husband of Geraldine (Murtaugh) Avigian, passed away on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026 at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Levon and Jouhar (Markarian) Avigian. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1949.
An honorably discharged veteran, Dick proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Mr. Avigian had a strong work ethic and was a trusted employee of GTE Sylvania at their Boston Street facility where he had been employed for over 43 years until the time of his retirement in 1993.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Dick provided for his family every day; they were the focus of his life and was happiest when surrounded by them. He was a humble man who enjoyed gardening and his daily walks around Salem and the love of his family. He will be deeply missed.
Dick is survived by his wife with whom he shared 70 years of marriage, Geraldine (Murtaugh) Avigian, his daughters, Judith Crosbie and her husband, Michael of Salem, Jeanine Beard of Cathedral City, CA, his sons, Richard Avigian and his wife, Brenda of Beverly, Stephen Avigian of San Francisco, and Jeffrey Avigian of Salem, his grandchildren, Adam Crosbie, Corey Crosbie and his wife, Michelle, Justin Crosbie, Alexa Beard, Matthew Avigian, Katie Wiberg and her husband, Dylan, Patrick Avigian, Kate Avigian, and Aidan Klingelhoffer, his great grandchildren, Chase Crosbie, Violet Crosbie, and Dax Wiberg, his brother, Michael Avigian and his wife, Dorothy of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late John Avigian & his wife Bertha.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to Dick’s funeral service which will be held at O’Donnell Cremations - Funerals - Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq E, (at Salem Common) SALEM on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 at 11 AM . A visiting hour will be held prior to the service from 10 AM to 11 AM. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, 57 Orne St., Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Dick’s memory to St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church of Merrimack Valley, 158 Main St., North Andover, MA 01845.
