IPSWICH – Mrs. Doris L. Tirrell, 95, passed away on Tuesday, January 31 st , surrounded by her loving family, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late William S. and Lucy A. (Lyon) Koehler. She was the beloved wife of the late John H. Tirrell, with whom she celebrated 44 years of marriage.
Mrs. Tirrell was raised and educated in Pelham, New Hampshire and Lowell, with the unique experience of attending a one room school house until the 6 th grade and graduating from Lowell High School, going on to further her education at the University of New Hampshire and Simmons College where she obtained her Bachelor's degree. An outgoing spirit, Doris was a member of the Blue Circle Outing Club at UNH where she traveled around the states. After graduation Doris went on to fulfill her career in teaching, where she specialized in home economics at Masconomet Regional High School for many years. She had resided in Ipswich for the past year, and prior was a proud Townie of Pelham, NH, spent years in Florida, and raised her family in Danvers.
Upon her and her husband, John's, retirement they lived out their dream of residing on their boat which was docked at the Palmer's Cove Yacht Club in Salem. Doris was a well-versed boater, and traveler, making trips across America and Europe.
She was happiest with her family, making the numerous memories that they will carry on.
No number of words can come close to summing up the life of Doris L. Tirrell. She was outgoing, knowledgeable, and knew how to make a room break into laughter. She was a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Club of Danvers, the Red Hat Society, and the Palmer's Cove Yacht Club. She had a natural gift in crafting, known for her needle work and sewing - she had the honor of making both her daughter's wedding dresses. She made the most beautiful pottery, oil paintings, and copper/silver jewelry.
Doris was the loving Mum to Jack Tirrell of Ormond Beach, FL, Gretchen Mello and her husband, Joseph of Ipswich, and MaryBeth Boucher and her husband, Roger of Salem, loving Grammie to Joseph Mello III, William Mello and his wife, Kimberly, Nicole Prince and her husband, Chris, Kati Sweeney and her husband, Dan, Brian Boucher and his wife, Kristen, and Alex Boucher and his fiancé, Maura Kaldes. Also, great-grandchildren; Christina Eriksson and her husband, Jeff, Mollie Mello, Zachary Mello, Alexandra Mello, Cody Mello, Abby Prince, and Emily Prince, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband, John Tirrell, she is preceded in death by her son, Peter K. Tirrell.
The family would like to thank Salem Hospital and the Kaplan Family Hospice House for all their loving care and support.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her Funeral Service will be held at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) DANVERS, Monday, Feb. 6 th at 11 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting hours Sunday, Feb. 5 th from 1 to 4 P.M. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
