(Sobocinski) Filip
August 18, 1944 – February 5, 2024
PEABODY - Mrs. Dorothy A. (Sobocinski) Filip 79, of Peabody, beloved wife of John W. Filip, passed away on Monday, February 5th, 2024 at her home with her family by her side.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Alice (Dzierzanowski) Sobocinski. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1962. Dorothy continued her education and received a bachelor's degree in education from Salem State University, graduating in 1966.
Dorothy embarked on a long and successful teaching career with the Town of Danvers for over 30 years teaching at the Thorpe, Riverside and Great Oak Schools. She was a beloved and dedicated elementary school teacher who took great pride in seeing her students grow and learn. She was instrumental in developing the skills her young students would need to succeed in their later studies. She was very proud to be a teacher.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, nothing was more important to Dorothy than her deep love of her family. She was truly happiest when surrounded by them, was most proud of her children and their accomplishments and was very excited when the grandchildren came along. Dorothy threw herself into her grandchildren's activities, never missing an event and was most importantly their biggest cheerleader. She also enjoyed vacationing with her family. She was an active parishioner of St. John the Baptist Polish Church in Salem for many years, a member of the Retired Educators Association of Massachusetts, the Retired State, County, and Municipal Employees of Massachusetts, and AARP. Dorothy touched many lives through her work, family, and associations and will be remembered for her kind and generous nature and will be deeply missed by those who loved her and the many hearts she touched along the way.
Surviving Dorothy, in addition to her loving husband, John with whom she shared 57 years of marriage, is her daughter, Christine Melin and her husband, Scott of Peabody, her son, John Filip and his wife, Peggy of Danvers, her grandchildren, Erin, Madison, Michael and Kelly, and her grand dogs, Kippy & Danni, her sister, Joan Pizzello and her husband, Paul of Salem, her sister-in-law, Edie Walsh of Salem, and several nieces and nephews.
