DANVERS- Mrs. Edna (Chase) Barrowclough, 89, of Danvers, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late John Arthur Barrowclough.
Born in Ayer, she was the daughter of the late Freeman and Mary Edna (Moore) Chase. She was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Holten High School, Class of 1946. Edna continued her education, receiving her degree in Education from Salem State College.
An educator for many years, Edna was the founder and Director of the day school at Emmanuel Congregational Church in Beverly where she remained for many years; touching many lives through her teaching, care and kindness.
A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who had many interests and talents, her greatest passion was her family. She enjoyed making special holiday memories with her grandchildren baking cookies as a Christmas tradition. For 61 years Edna and her girlfriends enjoyed playing Michigan Rummy, "never liked to miss a beat". She loved nature, gardening and canning her own vegetables. She was well known for her constant knitting and sewing which she shared with her family and many friends. She was a 4H leader and was well travelled. She will be dearly missed.
Surviving Edna are her two daughters: Lee Barrowclough and her husband Roger Foster of Rowley, Shirley Barrowclough-Durkee and her husband William of Danvers; three sons: Bruce Barrowclough and his wife Debra of Danvers, John Barrowclough and his wife Brenda of Groveland and William Barrowclough and his wife Susan of Nottingham, NH. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Keith Barrowclough and his wife Christy, Justin Barrowclough, Adam Harriott and his wife Aimee, Felicia Amazeen and her husband Alan, and Amy Barrowclough. Her great-grandchildren: Madison, Kyle, Ella, Trent, Parker, Sawyer, Hunter, Logan and Scarlett. Three sisters, Edith Farnham of Middleton, Janet Brown and her husband Charlie of Raymond, NH and Phyllis Bolton and her husband Richard of Richmond, VA. She was also the grandmother of the late Melissa Barrowclough and Jessica Barrowclough and sister of the late Freeman Chase Jr., and sister-in-law of the late David Farnham.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her Funeral Service will be held in the Emmanuel Congregational Church, 140 Bridge St., Beverly on Wednesday September 27, 2017 at 11A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting hours in the Peterson O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (Rte 62) Danvers on Tuesday September 26 from 4-7 P.M.
