Edward Frank Carter

SALEM – Mr. Edward Frank Carter, 93 of Salem and the loving husband of the late Alicia M. (Allen) Carter, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly with his family by his side.

Born in Salem, Ed was the son of the late Frank and Jane (Hill) Carter. He was raised and educated in Salem, graduating from Salem High School in 1950. Ed enlisted into the military shortly after his high school graduation and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

Professionally, Ed dedicated his entire working career to Sylvania on Loring Avenue in Salem where he worked for shipping and receiving until the time of his retirement.

A lifelong resident of Salem, Ed was happiest when in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was a hard worker and one to do things himself, one task at a time. He loved successful home improvements, anything to do with the Cleveland Browns, golfing and caddying and watching both sports on television. He was sharp as a tact, loved reading and completing crossword puzzles and later in life, relished in seeing the many places that Chronicle showcased. Ed was a simple man who loved his wife, children and their families and will be deeply missed by them all.

Surviving Ed are his children, Cathy Schmidt of Brigantine, NJ, Edward Carter and his wife, Cheryl of Chester, NH and Andrew Carter and his wife, Elizabeth of Chantilly, VA; his grandchildren, Meridith and Alex Hayden, Reid Schmidt and Corey Rosenbloom, Abigail Schmidt and Matthew Caulfield, Ian Carter and his fiancé, Anna Dullea, Will Carter, Aiden Carter, Charlotte Carter and Colin and Kelly McLaughlin; his 4 great-grandchildren, James and Gwyneth Hayden and Julia and Emma McLaughlin; and his sister, Joyce Turner and her husband, Al of Alabama and their daughter, Megan Turner and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife Alicia, Ed was predeceased by his loving daughter, Julie Carter, son-in-law, William Schmidt and sisters, Joan, Jean, Jane and June.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to Ed’s visiting hours which will be held at O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM on Monday, September 28th from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M.
