Obituary

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA – Mrs. Eileen M. (Fitzpatrick) Fitzgerald, 83, of Savannah, Georgia, beloved wife of Thomas Norbert Fitzgerald, died peacefully on Monday, June 3rd, 2024, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in County Cavan, Ireland, Eileen was the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Ellen (Kiernan) Fitzpatrick. Raised and educated in County Cavan, at the age of 17 years old, she immigrated to the United States in 1957. Her adventurous spirit led her initially to live in Boston for a few years before returning to Ireland to be with her mother during her final days. The following year, she ventured to Scotland then back to the United States where she settled in New York City, met her beloved husband and began her family. In 1980, a new job opportunity brought the family to the charming coastal city of Savannah, Georgia.

First and foremost, Eileen was a devoted wife and mother, dedicating her life to serving her family. She instilled immense values of faith, hope, and love in her children, which have been passed on to her cherished grandchildren. Her love of family was boundless. Although Eileen's sisters and brothers resided in Ireland, she prioritized finding ways to stay connected with them. Her sisters and brothers were always a special part of her life. In addition to being a wonderful daughter, mother and sister, Eileen was employed for over 30 years at The Pirate's House restaurant in Savannah, where she was deeply respected by her co-workers.

A profoundly steadfast and proud Catholic, Eileen was a faithful member of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Parish in Savannah. She was devoted to the rosary, with her love of God at the heart of who she was. She could often be found in deep prayer, reciting her novenas. She studied the saints and knew which one to call upon in every situation for spiritual assistance. St. Padre Pio, St. Anthony, and Our Lady of Lourdes often interceded for her in times of need, for which she was eternally grateful. Prayerful and faithful, but most importantly loving of all, she shared these gifts with everyone, especially her children and grandchildren.

Eileen enjoyed traveling with her family, spending time at the beach, and sharing her Irish heritage. Her trademark delicious Irish soda bread was even featured in the local newspaper around St. Patrick's Day. She also enjoyed walks with her canine companion, Princess.

Eileen's life will be remembered for the self-giving love she showered upon her husband, children, grandchildren, friends, and God. Her gentle spirit, witty humor, contagious laugh, and positive disposition made a lasting imprint on all who knew her. Her children and grandchildren will remember her with immense fondness and deep affection.

Eileen is survived by her husband, Thomas Fitzgerald of Savannah, Georgia; her daughters, Karen Morgan and her partner, Jim of Savannah, Georgia, Debbie Frost and her husband, Chris, of Franklin, TN, Eileen Klapprodt and her husband, Rob, of Topsfield, and Colleen Erickson and her husband, Christopher, of Topsfield; her son, Thomas Fitzgerald, USAF, and his wife, Lourdes, of Osan, South Korea; her grandchildren, Lauren, Kevin, and Ryan Frost, Hannah, Elise, Amelia, Charlotte, and Evelyn Klapprodt, Jack, Will, and Charlie Erickson, and Adriana, Megan, Patricia, and Sean Fitzgerald; her sisters, Frances McGovern of County Meade, Ireland, and Ita McCallion of Glasgow, Scotland; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was the sister of the late Nuala O'Reilly, John Patrick Fitzpatrick, and Jim Fitzpatrick.
