PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL - Eileen Sweeney, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Kennebunk, ME, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, after a courageous 4-year battle with EGFR-Mutant lung Cancer. Born on August 8, 1951, she was the devoted wife of Michael Sweeney, with whom she shared 42 extraordinary years of marriage.
An accomplished HR executive for more than three decades, Eileen built a career that carried her across the world. She spent 12 years living in Cairo, Brussels, and London, guiding global technology, healthcare, and service organizations through complex mergers and acquisitions. Her mastery of intelligent workforce strategy—paired with her natural curiosity and sense of adventure—made her a trusted leader and a beloved colleague. In recent years, she embraced her passion for bridge, finding joy in the friendships she cultivated in both Florida and Maine.
Eileen’s heart, however, was always with her family. For 24 years, “Hopewell Farm,” the home she and Michael created in Newfane, VT, became the center of countless memories. She transformed the farm into a place of wonder—where holidays were filled with laughter, toboggan runs, pond swims, and spirited treks to discover “Uncle Wiggly’s” house in the woods. Her grandchildren will forever remember nighttime sparklers, her endless supply of pancakes and cookies, and her famous “magic carpet rides,” offered with a smile only she could give.
A passionate collector, Eileen and Michael traveled the world seeking unique artifacts and antiques. Each piece became part of the story of their life together, thoughtfully placed in the homes she infused with warmth and beauty.
Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Leland and Suzanne Kirk, and her brother, Ross Kirk. She is survived by her husband, Michael; her children, Chris Sweeney and wife Kate, John Sweeney and wife Ann‑Marie, and Gillian Sweeney; her grandchildren, Eliza Christianson, Pietra and Jillian Sweeney, Simon and Lee Reynolds, and Charlie, Dylan, and Noah Sweeney; her great‑grandchildren, Sessalie, Vivienne, and Raphael Christianson: and her sister-in-law Jeri Kirk, niece Lisa Kirk and nephew Daniel Kirk.
