Born in Peabody, Elaine was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna (Beote) Tobin. She was raised and educated in Salem, graduating from St. James High School and continued her education at Salem State College earning her degree in Education.

Mrs. Tivnan devoted her teaching career to elementary education and was a well-known and respected educator in the Danvers and Lawrence Public Schools. Much of her career was dedicated to reading, working as a reading specialist until the time of her retirement. She shared her passion for reading with her grandchildren as well as her students.

A longtime resident of the Town of Danvers, Elaine and Phil built their home, raising their family of 3 children, working hard and cherishing all of life's blessings. She was a communicant of St. Richard's Parish in Danvers and proudly involved in the church's development. She loved traveling, with her husband, family or friends, especially to Ireland, National Parks and many cruises including to Alaska and Hawaii. During her retirement years, Elaine truly enjoyed her time spent with her family on Ossipee Lake in New Hampshire or in Naples, Florida with close friends, both old and new. Above all else, family was at the heart of who Elaine was. She was ultimately proud of her children and grandchildren and was truly invested in her grandchildren's accomplishments, supporting them through their many endeavors. She treasured time spent with her loved ones and her memory and love will live on in the hearts of those closest to her.
