Obituary

SWAMPSCOTT - Mrs. Eleanora R. (Sobocinski) Buras, 99 of Swampscott, beloved wife of Chester P. Buras, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 18, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Claire (Jones) Sobocinski. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School. Eleanora continued her education, receiving her bachelor's degree from Simmons College.

Eleanora embarked on a successful career in education, initially teaching Biology at Salem High School.  She subsequently taught in the Home Economics department.  Eleanora was instrumental in starting the first on-site pre-school program at Salem High School, where students interested in early childhood education gained direct teaching experience. Eleanora made a significant impact on the lives of the many students who entered her classroom throughout her 26-year career.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, family always came first. She relished time spent with her children and grandchildren involved in their many activities and celebrating their many accomplishments. Eleanor and Chester loved to travel. They took great pleasure exploring the beauty of nature as they travelled to numerous national parks. Their love of history and knowledge led them to visit many presidential libraries across the country. Eleanora enjoyed dancing, doing crossword puzzles, knitting, and reading. She will be forever remembered for her generous spirit and her love for children and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving Eleanora in addition to her husband Chester, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage, are her children, Julie Ann Zigo and her husband James of Arlington, Jennifer Rose Buras and her husband Christopher Carmosino of Swampscott, and Jon Anthony Buras and his wife Wende of Oahu, HI, her grandchildren, Liliana Zigo, Sam and Zach Carmosino, and Max and Megan Buras and several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to Eleanora's funeral Mass which will be held at St. John Paul II Shrine of Divine Mercy, 28 St. Peter St., Salem (please meet directly at church) on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 10 A.M. Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Assisting the family with the arrangements is O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals- Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq. (at Salem Commons) SALEM.
