DANVERS - Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Riley) Spencer, 95, who most recently resided in Tewksbury, but was a lifelong resident of Danvers, beloved wife of the late Richard B. Spencer Sr., passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Rydberg) Riley and graduated from Peabody High School. Betty enjoyed a decades-long career at Danvers Savings Bank.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Betty’s greatest source of pride was her family. She was very proud of her children’s and grandchildren’s many accomplishments. Betty loved being surrounded by her family and relished the times spent celebrating their many milestones, making many memories along the way. She was a source of love and guidance, always there to support her family when needed.

Dedicated to her church and community, Betty was a longtime, very active member of Holy Trinity United Methodist Church in Danvers for more than 70 years. She served on countless committees and was a member of the Samaritan Circle, Women’s Circle, Bible Study, and Book Club. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, was a member of the Red Hat Society, enjoyed New England travel with friends, and walked daily at Liberty Tree Mall with her tribe for years. Betty was kind, generous, and supportive of her family and many friends, and will be forever remembered for her service to others and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Betty is survived by her children, Beth-Ann Alden and her husband Roy of Stockholm, ME; Richard B. Spencer Jr. and his wife Jo Ann (Betty’s special caregiver) of Tewksbury; Donna Spencer of Decatur, AL; Barbara Doyle of Essex, CT; and Brenda Spencer of San Antonio, TX.
