IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ellen J.
(Connolly) Doucette
May 9, 1938 – February 2, 2023
DANVERS - Long time Catholic school educator Ellen (Connolly) Doucette of Danvers, Ma. passed away February 2nd at the age of 84, joining her late husband Arnie. Ellen leaves her two children — her daughter, Janine (Doucette) and her husband, Bryan Cote of West Hartford, Ct., and her son, John Doucette and his wife, Kathy of Danvers. Ellen was a very proud grandmother of Jack, Sophia, Tommy, Lila, and Ali. She also leaves her older brother, Father Michael Connolly of Spokane, WA., and her nephew, Christopher Connolly of Pennsylvania. She is pre-deceased by her younger brother, John Connolly and his wife, Nancy of Carlisle, Pa.
Born on May 9th, 1938, in Charlestown to Agnes and John, Ellen was raised in Everett, attended Our Lady of Grace school in Chelsea, and graduated St. Mary's High School in Lynn. Ellen entered the Sister of Notre Dame convent in the 1960s, graduated from Emmanuel and Regis Colleges and earned a Master's degree from Boston College. After leaving the convent and meeting Arnie, she dedicated her life to the Catholic Church, particularly Catholic School education. Ellen was a faithful and devoted parishioner throughout her life, most recently at St. Mary's in Danvers where she was a daily communicant and loved the Sunday folk Mass. Ellen was a beloved middle school teacher at Our Lady of the Assumption in Lynnfield, a teacher and vice principal at St. Mary' School in Danvers and retired as a religion teacher at Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody.
Ellen was an avid reader and linguist, she loved all kinds of books, Irish melodies like "Danny Boy," and all Boston sports, especially the Red Sox and the Celtics. She made a great tomato soup and grilled cheese, loved potatoes, and "a little pepper" on everything. She loved visits to Gloucester for breakfast at Morning Glory and a drive around Good Harbor Beach. Ellen lived at The Maples in retirement and even in her later years when her short-term memory faded, she was often laughing and smiling. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Linden, Ledgewood and Care Dimensions for all of their love and support.
