PEABODY - Ellen M. (Gibney) Edwards, 79 of Peabody, MA passed away peacefully on Friday, July 28th, 2023 after a long courageous battle. She was surrounded by family at her time of death.

Ellen was born on February 28th 1944 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to William Robert Gibney and Eileen (Pooler) Gibney. After spending many years in Hamilton, Ohio the family settled in Salem, MA where Ellen graduated high school at Saint James in 1961.

Ellen worked several jobs but most notably at Sylvania in Danvers, MA for many years. Later in life she moved to Carmel, Maine with her husband George and worked as a registrar at Beal College in Bangor, Maine until her retirement.

Her children were her greatest joy but she also enjoyed many hobbies. Among her favorites were reading, art, photography, music, dancing, star gazing, whale watching, exploring lighthouses, camping at Sebasticook lake, attending Native American functions and all things Halloween. Family and friends were everything to her and she enjoyed all these activities with them.

Ellen was very generous and donated to many causes and charities including raising a South American child through an organization into adulthood. She also was a huge supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Ellen is survived by her two loving children, Tracy Letourneau and her longtime partner, Robert Haight of Peabody, MA and Brett Letourneau of Asheville, North Carolina. Siblings; Michael Gibney and his wife, Mary of Peabody, MA, Patrick Gibney and his wife, Diane of Raleigh, North Carolina and Margaret Parmelee of Sweden, Maine. Her grandchildren, Travis Letourneau of Beverly, MA and Emmett Letourneau of Beverly, MA. Two step-children, Diana Bogue and her husband, Edward of Hebron, CT and Andrea Ferguson and her husband, James of Middleton, NH. Several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her best friend of over 50 years, Linda Pellitier of Beverly, MA. Ellen was predeceased by her loving husband of 40 years, George Francis Edwards, siblings William Gibney and David Gibney and step-daughter, Christina Flynn.

Mom, thanks for all the wonderful memories. You will be missed and loved always. See you in the stars.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ellen's funeral service which will be held at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM on Thursday, August 3rd at 11 A.M. Burial is private. Visiting hours on Wednesday, August 2nd from 4 to 7 P.M.
