DANVERS-Eva May (Case)(Joaquim)Voss, 66, of Danvers passed away in the loving arms of her daughter, Melissa, on Thursday December 5, 2024 at the Care Dimensions hospice house in Danvers. It was snowing gently that morning and she made her heavenly journey peacefully in the afternoon.
Her final days were filled hosting family, church friends, and her beloved grandchildren who enjoyed singing, painting and laughing in the presence of their “Nana.”
Eva was born in New Bedford, the second daughter of six to devout followers of Jesus, Robert and Norma Case. She graduated from Westport High school where she excelled as a divinely inspired classically trained pianist. She was always quick to give credit to God for her gifts. Eva was a prolific writer and self-taught artist. She was recognized and awarded for winning piano recitals. When she turned 18, she became a mother.
Eva was married and divorced twice and bore four children: Melissa, JohnAnthony and Christopher, and she raised them as a single Mother. Jennifer was lost before term.
She was a passionate woman and blessed others with her abundance of God given gifts and talents. Many congregations over the years were moved to tears hearing her play piano during church services. Another incredible gift she possessed was the ability to create original artwork. Sketches and paintings poured from her skillful hands.
Her children have fond memories of watching and hearing her sing during frequent choir practices. The quality of her soulful voice was so lovingly cultivated, people marveled at her ability to harmonize in lower octaves. Her children recall many Saturdays spent at Eva’s childhood home, as they played underfoot outside with their cousins and listened to the grown-ups chatting while hanging wash on the line with clothespins.
Family members and friends fondly recall cherished holiday meals where Eva whisked the smoothest gravy and entertained with all of her eccentricities and humor. She was hysterically funny and had an infectious laugh. She held God’s word in her heart and could quote scripture; pressed into Jesus through every hardship; and encouraged others to do the same. Her well-loved Bible, worn with use, was highlighted with notes in the side margins and remained with her to her final days.
She will be missed especially by her grandchildren for whom she gave the most-clever names as follows: Doodlebug, Googly Bear, Tessadora Rosabelle then Tinkerbell, Bento Box then Boo, Kagie Waygie, Magoo, and Baby Dom. They all knew only her best attributes; to paint the most whimsical birthday cards; tell the funniest jokes about bears and monkeys; and always have on hand their favorite treats from Stop and Shop whilst providing only the best quality family movies to watch. Bentley's poem lovingly portrayed her, "Nana in her chair, you always had such pretty hair."
She is survived by her children Melissa Gill (Matthew), JohnAnthony Joaquim Jr (Stephanie), and Christopher Joaquim. Her siblings Ruth Savino (Richard), Naomi Case, Nathan Case (Grace), Mark Case (Susan), Andrew Case (Christine) as well as grand and great grandchildren, exceptionally close nieces and nephews who, as children, referred to her as “Aunty Mommy.”
Eva will be remembered fondly by those whose lives she touched with her encouragement, compassion, and affinity for comic relief.
A final farewell was held for immediate family only at O’Donnell’s Funeral Home in Danvers across from her final residence. Later a music filled celebration of life was graciously shared at her home church, The First Baptist Church of Danvers, with food and fellowship following. Many family and friends, and even her favorite medical team members, attended both in person and virtually. In lieu of flowers, honor Eva’s life. Take a few moments to hum a kooky tune, learn to play an instrument, and make an original drawing playing “the line game.” Remember Eva when you send that zany mixed up hilarious text; sing out loud; buy some Breyer’s Natural Vanilla ice cream at Stop and Shop; sing from the heart during worship at church; bake something to share at a dinner party or just with a good friend or neighbor; figure out how to make good gravy; give a blanket to someone who needs one; and especially smile with an orange peel in your mouth for teeth.
